No Viena, si no Vigo --- Not Vienna, but Vigo

(En nombre de --- on behalf of --- José Gefaell)

En Español (for English, see below)

Finally, the Global Gefaell Gathering will be held in Vigo, Galicia, Spain, between the 15 and the 17 of august. In concrete, it will be held in Bayona La Real, the noble village which first had news about the “discovery” of America.

Camino and Blanca, copied here, will coordinate everything locally. They have found already a good and budget hotel, the Bahía de Bayona Hotel (€92 each double room). It is a hotel near the beach and close to Bayona center. They still have enough available rooms. In principle, it will be our base camp. You may reserve there, calling or e-mailing directly and giving your VISA card. You have to say that is for the Gefaell family reunion. But you must reserve the nights of 14, 15 and 16 of august (due to the high season, no less than three nights are allowed). It is recommended to make your reservation as quick as possible. You can always cancel easily later (the hotel will not suffer, due to the high season). Once you have reserved, please let us know, in order to know how many we are:

You can also reserve in the amazing Parador de Bayona, but it’s more expensive:

From Bayona we will organize excursions to Pontevedra, Santiago de Compostela, and Cies Islands:

As a closing, in the following links you can listen some traditional music from Galicia, and “taste” the Galician cuisine, in order to capture the atmosphere:

Vienna Gathering 2014 (on behalf of José Gefaell)

Dear family,

It's time for everybody to start holiday planning for 2014. The survey for our Gefaell Global Gathering finalized and the decision was to do the reunion in Vienna, in August (with no specific dates). See the excel spread sheet attached. We could have the reunion, for example, from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th of August.

We hope everybody will be able to attend, from Australia to Canada, from Spain or Italy to England, China or the Estates, and from Austria. But of course, life is very rich and some economies not so much, so we know that not all of you will be able to join.

In any event, in order to finally organise the event, we need some volunteers (not writers, like myself). We will be a ‘großen Familie’, maybe up to 75 or even up to 100 people, so we could take advantage of the economies of scale and try to get discounts. Perhaps it will be a good idea to separate tasks and to have one volunteer for organising a common blog through which communication is more effective – Willy, perhaps the existing one will be perfect (http://gefaelada2010.blogspot.com.es); other volunteers for arranging the hotel; another ones for organising each dinner or lunch, or each cultural visit (if any). Flights have to be arranged individually. But of course, any of you can arrange as well your hotel individually.

Any volunteers for the in-Vienna organisation?

Let’s jump to some considerations. Read below. What you thought, that all this was going to be free? The price you have to pay is to read my heavy writing (just kidding - simply avoid reading it if you have not time or you are not in philosophic mode).

Best wishes, Jose

Trust

The ability to have faith and trust in something invisible is one of the best perfections with which God gifted homo sapiens.

During the years previous to this great financial crisis, during the bubble years, many of us were worried about how a lot of people were just focused in money-oriented activities, instead of in trust-oriented activities. Now that we are struggling to get over the crisis, many of us are still worried about the willingness of some governments to precisely try to overcome the crisis just with money.

Prosperity is a marvelous thing, but money is not upon which prosperity or the economy is based. The economic activity (and, it can be argued, the whole human activity) is based upon trust. Trust between individuals, trust between strangers, trust between organizations. Trust in the future, trust in what people read, and even trust in what people think about them selves. Thus, money should not be the focus of any human activity, nor of any business neither of any recovery plan. Generate faith and trust must be the first target.

The whole economy is nothing more than a trust-exchange, in many cases an anonymous exchange of trust. When we will book our flight to Vienna, we will entrust our lives and the lives of our families to the work of a myriad of complete strangers. When we will eat in a restaurant in Vienna we will trust the chef not to put poison in our food. The exchange of our human activity is only possible to the extent people trust in each other.

Fiduciary money is one way of exchanging trust. Without money we would be restricted to barter the production of our activity one way or another. Money facilitates the exchange and thus facilitates trust. Even the word ‘credit’ derives from the Latin word ‘credere’, which means to trust. So it is true that fiduciary money and trust are in some extent connected.

Hence, when government and institutions play games with big money, they have to realize that they are also in some extent playing games with social bonding, with trust, with the faith of people. Because those who are responsible of organizing any economy, or even any business, should be oriented first to actions trust-generating, instead of to actions money-generating. I miss that in many governments.

In the mid-1980s, the architect Frank Gehry’s built a conference room in the shape of a fish, and designed several snake and fish lights that caught the public’s imagination. “Trust me. I will give a new scale to architecture” –he said to the experts that were at that time concerned with his abstract system–, “the fish scale”. He ended up designing some of the greatest buildings in modern architecture, like the Guggenheim museum at Bilbao, Spain.

It can be pretentious, but why we cannot think big and try to give a new scale to our family gathering, hoping that this 2014 Gefaell Global Gathering will represent a renaissance of our trust in each of our particular families, our trust in the human being and even our trust in God, the trust that has always encouraged our individual souls.

gran poeta y pensador, traductor y sociólogo,

A few days ago Turhan Boysan Gefaell, son of  Tere Gefaell and Rasin Boysan, brother of Tania Ackerman Gefaell and uncle of her two sons Pau and Miguel Bermúdez-Cañete Ackermann, died in Geneve, Switzerland, at 57. To beleivers we ask to pray for his soul and to non.believers a moarnful thought.

Descansa en paz, Turhan. Que Dios te acoja en su seno.

Rest in peace Turhan. May God have you with Him.
